A new take on the Batman origin story smack in the middle of an ongoing series! I did not quite enjoy it, what with an insolent Alfred Pennyworth (slapping Bruce Wayne, and sharing a first-name basis? What has this (origin) universe come to?), and an unimpressive adversary。P。S。 Interestingly, nobody seems to want to change the shooting-in-the-alley, falling-into-the-well parts of the mythos。 They are, doubtless, very powerful allegories of the legend that is the Batman。

Another solid entry from Snyder/Capullo in the New 52 Batman Run。 This run may end up being one of my favorite runs in comics, honestly。 It's crisp, fresh, and interesting。 It doesn't feel like a reboot but does feel new。 It is also a rare case of a relaunch truly being accessible to new readers as I witnessed firsthand (though I was fairly familiar with Batman)。 The synergy between Snyder and Capullo is so, so effective here。 The art does as much heavy lifting for the story as it has for this r Another solid entry from Snyder/Capullo in the New 52 Batman Run。 This run may end up being one of my favorite runs in comics, honestly。 It's crisp, fresh, and interesting。 It doesn't feel like a reboot but does feel new。 It is also a rare case of a relaunch truly being accessible to new readers as I witnessed firsthand (though I was fairly familiar with Batman)。 The synergy between Snyder and Capullo is so, so effective here。 The art does as much heavy lifting for the story as it has for this run。 A slight dip from 4 stars as this origin story takes a break from the main narrative and goes back to redefine Batman's origins in the New 52 continuity。 It does it well, while honoring what is established about the character。 Snyder manages to make it still feel new and not another origin revisit。 However, it did also feel like set-up to a set-up so it was a bit slower than the previous volumes for me。 Also, the new Red Hood didn't quite do it for me as a villain。 The reinvention of the Riddler was cool, but, again, was set-up。 I look forward to the rest of the Zero Year storyline and the further volumes of this series。 。。。more

Batman Volume 4: Zero Year: Secret City is a brilliant reinvention of Batman early days。To me, this comic managed to do what so many other Batman comics bar Frank Millers Year One, have failed to do。 Keep me genuinely interested and entertained while telling a story I'm very familiar with。Instead of focusing on what every other writer has been focusing on almost exclusively since Millers take on Batman's origins, Snyder goes for something very different, with the red hood and the riddle being th Batman Volume 4: Zero Year: Secret City is a brilliant reinvention of Batman early days。To me, this comic managed to do what so many other Batman comics bar Frank Millers Year One, have failed to do。 Keep me genuinely interested and entertained while telling a story I'm very familiar with。Instead of focusing on what every other writer has been focusing on almost exclusively since Millers take on Batman's origins, Snyder goes for something very different, with the red hood and the riddle being the caped crusaders first adversaries。 The way the plot unravelled blew my mind。 Something that can't be understated is how well Bruce Wayne is characterised in this comic。 I've connected to this version of Bruce Wayne better than I have in any other comic rendition。When it comes to the art style this might just be my favourite Graphic Novel ever。 Everything is presented very clearly, no matter how crazy the scenario is。 While it's easy to get lost at times during hectic scenes in other comics, Capullo manages to convey everything you need to know to have a clear image of the scene, without compromising any of the grit and movement you would expect from a superhero comic。 It's truly breathtaking。If you're a Batman fan read this! And if you've been wanting to get into Batman comic, this is a great place to start! 。。。more

Holy acid flashbacks Batman! While mostly a Joker origin story, this is all about Batman in his early days, before he had any of his cool toys (i。e。 Batmobile, Batwing, Bat-shark repellent, etc。)。 This is my second (or third?) time reading Zero Year。 Bruce and Alfred's relationship is still developing as Alfred is opposed to the suicidal nature of Batman's crusade。 The plot is solid。 The art and colors are absolutely brilliant。 This book leads into the next one where the Riddler really f@#$s up Holy acid flashbacks Batman! Pretty good origin story。 Liked the last short story in the back。 Not sure we needed to see a worse version of The Killing Joke origin but oh well。 The riddler plot that was set up seems interesting enough。 Probably going to start a non-fiction book next。

Honestly, I loved the graphics and colouring so much!!!

I think this is a great issue and the fact that it paid homage to the earlier iterations in a new way was good。

While I was initially irritated by how much this conflicts with established, pre New 52 lore, a great story is a great story。 Especially when it’s scripted by genius Scott Snyder and drawn by virtuoso Greg Capullo。It’s really fucking good。 Does it negate Year One? Pretty much。 Killing Joke? Definitely。 It’s ok though, because it’s a perfectly constructed story that builds to one hell of a crescendo。Definitely great, and I recommend it to anyone who has ever loved Batman。

As i expected, i really liked this。I'm a fan of the New 52 iniciative, because i really start to dig into comics, instead of just mangas, between this run on DC and on the Marvel Now iniciative on the other publisher。 And this Batman is nice。 Some new concepts, new characters and all。 I really like the relationship between Alfred and Bruce on this one。 A new origin for his "bat" thing, that was a little weird with that black orb, but overall, it was like the others。 As Snyder said, it's not a ye As i expected, i really liked this。I'm a fan of the New 52 iniciative, because i really start to dig into comics, instead of just mangas, between this run on DC and on the Marvel Now iniciative on the other publisher。 And this Batman is nice。 Some new concepts, new characters and all。 I really like the relationship between Alfred and Bruce on this one。 A new origin for his "bat" thing, that was a little weird with that black orb, but overall, it was like the others。 As Snyder said, it's not a year one, but i felt that it was, actually! And it was cool to see Red Hood as a "first" villain for Batman, specially if he becomes what o think he will be (?)。My problem here, believe or not, is Scott Snyder。 I mean, he's writing over here is very solid, but it has some dialogues that makes me dislike his "superstar" figure。 He's a decent writer, but not that star that a lot people think, specially himself。。。And draw os gorgeuos。 Greg Capullo is one of the best artists to ever pass through the Dark Knights stories。Anyway, it's a good read and, as a lot of the New 52 titles, is a good superhero readings。 。。。more

Kind of a pointless retelling of Miller's Batman: Year One which I was never that keen on in the first place。 This volume contains notes from Snyder about how he wanted to do everything different, brighter, more extreme, but it ends up as just another murky rehash。 We're supposed to believe that the Red Hood was inspired by the death of Thomas and Martha。 That's about as icky an idea as I've read。 Not sure how much of this is canon today, but this was the first misstep of the series。 Kind of a pointless retelling of Miller's Batman: Year One which I was never that keen on in the first place。 This volume contains notes from Snyder about how he wanted to do everything different, brighter, more extreme, but it ends up as just another murky rehash。 We're supposed to believe that the Red Hood was inspired by the death of Thomas and Martha。 That's about as icky an idea as I've read。 Not sure how much of this is canon today, but this was the first misstep of the series。 。。。more

Hieno Batmanin syntytarinan uudelleenkertonta。 Yllätyin positiivisesti。 Loppualbumin lyhyet tarinat olivat taas puolestaan hirveitä ja täysin turhia。

Coming off a fantastic set of stories (especially death in the family), I was worried about the direction they would go。 Going with another retelling of the origin/early days was the right choice+the two part opener are so different and wild is a great setup+origins are always fun++Alfred&Bruce disagreement+empty question mark++this story knows when to rely on heavy dialogue and then when to let the panels talk-become a bat is a wee bit cheesy for me+the speech+nice ending to wrap up the current Coming off a fantastic set of stories (especially death in the family), I was worried about the direction they would go。 Going with another retelling of the origin/early days was the right choice+the two part opener are so different and wild is a great setup+origins are always fun++Alfred&Bruce disagreement+empty question mark++this story knows when to rely on heavy dialogue and then when to let the panels talk-become a bat is a wee bit cheesy for me+the speech+nice ending to wrap up the current arc and looking to dive deep in the next-/+super big style change for the last mini stories in the last issue。 Seems a bit out of place and I’m not sure readers needed the extra explanation for what Bruce was doing, but maybe that’s just me 。。。more

Pretty good but differentBatman has so many origin stories but I guess it’s fun to reimagine from time to time。 I’ve enjoyed Scott Snyder’s storytelling in the issues I’ve read by him。

Not just a great Batman story, but a great Bruce Wayne story as well。

A fantastic new origin story。 A really liked the more complicated relationship between Bruce and Alfred。

As origin stories come, this one was stellar。 The cherry on top of the cake was the bat symbol when the lights went out。

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are incredible together。 Snyder tries to reinvent Batman's origin story and actually succeeds。 It took some time for me to get into it but once I was, I was really into it。 It has your Batman action mixed with a great mystery。 This volume alone could be shared with new readers and they won't be confused。Additionally, how does Capullo manage to make a colorful Batman story and yet convey the grittiness of Gotham and Batman? Such a sucker for Batman stories - and this one is the startWell, a start。 There have been COUNTLESS retelling of Batman’s origin but this maybe one of my favorites。 I love how bombastic, colorful and modern it feels。 It’s larger than the gritty, intimate Year One。 It’s colorful and full of characters and life。 There are a lot of bold thoughts and love underneath it all。 It’s truly wonderful。I wish DC would make movies faster of Scott Snyder’s stories。 I recently watched the animated version of Such a sucker for Batman stories - and this one is the startWell, a start。 There have been COUNTLESS retelling of Batman’s origin but this maybe one of my favorites。 I love how bombastic, colorful and modern it feels。 It’s larger than the gritty, intimate Year One。 It’s colorful and full of characters and life。 There are a lot of bold thoughts and love underneath it all。 It’s truly wonderful。I wish DC would make movies faster of Scott Snyder’s stories。 I recently watched the animated version of Year One and that was just awful。 I’d love a faithful adaptation of this story for more people to consume。 Greg Capullo drawings are amazing。 Truly is my favorite Batman artist。 。。。more

What's up with Snyder and Bruce Wayne's long speeches?Anyway, I'm not really a fan of Red Hood's new version, but I did enjoy the story。 It has kind of a slow rhythm and it is not particularly deep, but I think it ends on a high note。Side note: I really like how the image of Batman covering the city with his shadow, his cape or other things is a recurring element in the whole run。 What's up with Snyder and Bruce Wayne's long speeches?Anyway, I'm not really a fan of Red Hood's new version, but I did enjoy the story。 It has kind of a slow rhythm and it is not particularly deep, but I think it ends on a high note。Side note: I really like how the image of Batman covering the city with his shadow, his cape or other things is a recurring element in the whole run。 。。。more

Zero year is a really fun, bright and dynamic Batman retcon following DC’s New 52 revamp。 It’s takes familiar elements from the past and injects new life into them for a new generation。 I wasn’t sure if Batman needed a new origin story but by the end of the book I was definitely won over。
